What You Will Need To Make Creamy Sausage and Tomato Pasta

  • 1lb Italian Sausages (I prefer sweet but it is your preference)
  • 1 large chopped onion
  • 4 cloves of minced garlic
  • 5 tomatoes, diced
  • 1 can of tomato sauce
  • 1 ½ cups of Half-and-Half
  • 1 tablespoon of dried basil leaves
  • 1 box of penne or rigatoni pasta
  • Parmesan Cheese

How to Make Sausage and Tomato Pasta

Cook the Pasta

The first thing you will need to do is cook the pasta. To do this, get a large pot and add water. Use the instructions on the back of the pasta box to determine how much water you will need. Once the water is boiling, add 1 teaspoon of salt to the water. Then, add the pasta to the boiling water. Cook the pasta for approximately 7 – 10 minutes or until pasta is at the desired consistency. Some people prefer their pasta done al dente, where the pasta is still firm yet completely cooked, while others prefer that pasta is softer.

Making the Sauce

While the pasta is cooking, you can be making the sauce, or for those that do not multi-task well, you can make the sauce before making the pasta. Before cooking the sausages, you should cut them into small bite-sized pieces. Then, brown the sausages in a frying pan. Once cooked, remove (if any) the casings from the sausage pieces. To save time, you could remove the casing before cooking and slice into pieces after cooking. Once the sausages are browned, add in the onions. Next, add the garlic and sauté for approximately 3 minutes. Once sautéed, add in your diced tomatoes and the can of tomato sauce. Cover the pan so that everything in the pan is heated completely through. Add the Half-and-Half  into the sauce in the pan and again, use the lid to heat your sauce all the way through. If you want a thicker sauce, you will have to cook your sauce longer. For those looking for a thin, yet flavorful sauce, cook for approximately 2-3 minutes. Yet, you be the judge and cook until your sauce is at the desired consistency. Add in the basil and let the sauce simmer for 2 more minutes.

Serve & Enjoy

Add the pasta to your sauce and mix so that the sauce completely covers your pasta. Serve pasta on separate plates, adding parmesan cheese as desired. Serve and enjoy!

In the winter it is nearly impossible to motivate yourself to get out of your warm bed and into the cold world. If you have been so bold as to endure the frozen tundra that is outdoors then you deserve a warm, comforting meal pronto! If you don’t have anyone to make it for you then it ought to be a meal you can make yourself with little to no effort or waisted time. We understand and so we offer you the One-Pot Sausage, Kale and White Bean Pasta. This dish is perfect for the winter because you can use all locally grown ingredients that taste like warm weather, even if it happens to be snowing outside. So bundle up and get cozy with this easy recipe.

Mouth Watering Ingredients

In order to prepare the one-pot sausage, kale and bean pasta (or OPSKBP in case thats easier to say...) you must first acquire two tablespoons of extra-virgin olive oil. Then you’ll need one pound of hot Italian sausage which you will later remove the casings from and cut into half inch chunks. Take an onion and finely chop the whole thing. If you aren't crying too hard, mince six cloves of garlic while you’re at it. Now include one fifteen ounce can of cannellini beans, preferably rinsed, half a teaspoon of fennel seeds and half a teaspoon of dried oregano. Include at least one fourth teaspoon of red pepper flakes. Prepare three cups of chicken broth, one cup of water, eight ounces of orecchiette pasta, twelve ounces of kale stemmed and chopped. Finally, round out the dish with half a cup of Romano cheese plus a pinch of salt and pepper to taste.

Step by Step of the One-Pot Sausage, Kale and Bean Pasta Recipe

Begin by heating up your one teaspoon of extra-virgin olive oil in a Dutch oven (or a pot) on medium to high heat. Leave it on the heat until it begins to smoke. Then add in your sausage and cook it for five to seven minutes or until each piece is lightly browned. Afterwards you can add the onions and beans and get to cooking! Stir until your onions are brown then add the garlic, fennel, pepper flakes and oregano. You’ll know its ready by the smell.
Next step is stirring in the broth and water until it boils. Add the pasta and half of the kale. This there is some kale to flavor the sauce and some to stay green and fresh. Now cover the pot and keep it on medium heat for four minutes. Add the rest of the kale and cover until the kale is tender. Finally, stir everything all together. Spend the next three to six minutes waiting for the pasta to cook al dente. Take everything off the heat and stir in the pecorino and and oil. Top it all off with some pepper, salt, cheese and then enjoy!
